La Cavallerizza is placed very close to Piazza Cinque Giornate, in Milan. An important agreement among institutions will let La Cavallerizza have new life. From July 2012 La Cavallerizza hosts the FAI Management (Fondo Ambiente Italiano), particularly the operative offices and a large multi-purpose hall for cultural events in addition to the archive of the National Library Braidense.
The main building block is a massive volume of 53x23x10 meters high. Erected between 1910 and 1914, after the restoration of Gregotti of 2011 for the structural and functional recovery, the most recent mission was adjusting it to its new function, edited by A + G (Franco Achilli, Laura Russo and Anna Pavesi). On the first floor there are open spaces and meeting rooms. The internal clarity, the natural light and a non-invasive lighting project give the place its own authority and a sense of practical operation.
The lighting design joined a bigger project that had to be exemplary for both cost containment and for the observance of prevention and safety rules and requirements. On the long sides of the building twenty large windows provide natural light during the day. For artificial lighting, thanks to the collaboration of Studio de Bevilacqua and Artemide, it was decided to reuse the large headlights with metal-halide, overturning upward the light projection (thus generating a softer effect in the diffusion of light) and to equip all the desks of a their tasklight, Tolomeo Mini, in floor version for meeting rooms and executive offices.
